Okay, this makes one nerdy writer’s day LIFE!

I hear “I should have more written by now” or “I should be published already” from many of my students.

Well, writing, for me, always takes longer than I think it will. Hell, most worthwhile things do. And in the interim, nerds like us can freak ourselves out by incessantly Googling things like, “What % of books gets published?” “How hard is it to secure a literary agent?” “Do my readers wish I’d never been born?”

Personally, I’m not sure about any of those things, but I am certain about one thing: 0% of books that we give up on are published.

So, keep envisioning your book’s preorder sale announcement, and heed the advice a sage man once gave me (which, in turn, he heard from his own mentor): “Just stay in the queue.“
